Caitlin Pyle, Proofread Anywhere
Caitlin Pyle is the founder and creator of Proofread Anywhere. Her story is very interesting! In 2011, she was working at a horrendous corporate job making barely any money. Caitlin was fired from her job and told she was a horrible person and would never amount to anything!
She started proofreading as a freelancer and quickly replaced her corporate job income with it. She started to make more and more money. Caitlin claims to have been able to make $1000 a month freelance proofreading within 4 weeks of starting!

Caitlin Pyle Proofread Anywhere Better Business Bureau Rating?
Caitlin is always getting asked why there is no Proofread Anywhere Better Business Bureau rating. Proofread Anywhere is not on the Better Business Bureau because she doesn’t want to pay them. She wrote about it here if you want to learn more.
Phon Baillie, Art of Proofreading
Phon Baillie created the Art of Proofreading. She has almost 20 years of experience proofreading and amazingly she had proofread thousands of books. She has even proofread some of the most famous New York Times bestsellers!
Somehow, she has also managed to be a mom and simultaneously build a successful business working from home. She has perfected the ability to work hard but maintain a good work/life balance.
Phon Baillie did her postgraduate studies at a publishing school. She learned most of what knows about proofreading by herself though. She enjoyed publishing school but considers real-world experience to be the best way to learn the art of proofreading. Crucially, she concluded that publishing school was a good experience, but it did not prepare her for actually finding clients and running a freelance proofreading business.
Phon Baillie has been a successful freelance proofreader for many years, and she is an expert in what she does.
Comparing real students reviews to help with the Art of Proofreading vs Proofread Anywhere debate seems like a logical place to start. Let us start with some reviews of Caitlin Pyle’s course.
Proofread Anywhere Reviews
We found plenty of reviews online by students of Proofread Anywhere. Here are a few of the most popular reviews.
The Proofread Anywhere reviews we found online were generally extremely good. However, recently we have seen an increase in negative reviews regarding the course. You can read some of them here. I know that Caitlin has been having a few personal problems recently and I suspect that these negative reviews are related to those problems.
The actual content of the course seems solid (from the reviews above). The complaints seem to be more aimed at the support and Caitlin’s attitude. This is a shame because the students that I interviewed all seem to have loved the course and were able to obtain clients within a few weeks of completing it.
So is Proofread Anywhere a scam? I don’t think so based on the positive reviews I received from some of her students.
I discussed the course in depth with my friend Stephanie that took the course many years ago. She loved it and she did work as a freelance proofreader for many years. It was well worth the investment for her. Not only did it enable her to make money from home, it also changed her life by opening her eyes to the world of online entrepreneurship.

Art of Proofreading Reviews (by Phon Baillie)
There are very few Art of Proofreading reviews online. I could really only find this article . It is an interview with Phon about the course. It is very enlightening, but it is not really a review.
Maybe Proofread Anywhere is more popular. It could be that more people are motivated to write reviews about Proofread Anywhere because it has an affiliate program and they can promote it. Still, it is hard to make a purchasing decision for a course in the $500 – $600 price range without many reviews to check out. Social proof is so important these days and unfortunately the Art of Proofreading course seems to be missing this.
I would have to say that in the battle of Art of Proofreading vs Proofread Anywhere, the winner in terms of online reviews is Proofread Anywhere. It is not that the reviews are better for Proofread Anywhere, just that there are WAY more of them to read.
I tried reaching out to Phon Baillie to address this issue, but she did not respond.
Comparison of other important criteria
To compare the Art of Proofreading vs Proofread Anywhere, it is essential to look at several other factors.
Credentials: We covered this at the start of the article. Both authors are experienced and experts at what they do. Phon has a lot more experience with proofreading than Caitlin. On paper, Phon has the best credentials. However, this only seems to apply to the actual technical proofreading.
The main goal for students is to become a freelance proofreader which requires the ability to sell yourself and obtain clients. My impression is that Caitlin Pyle is by far the best in this area. I have always been impressed with Caitlin’s business accruement, and she passes some of this on to students in Proofread Anywhere.
Type of Course: Both are online proofreading courses for novices. Proofread Anywhere focuses on Caitlin’s strengths (general proofreading and transcript proofreading). Art of Proofreading is aimed at the same kind of niche but focuses a bit more on proofreading books. Both courses have some information about marketing and finding clients.
Refunds: Proofread Anywhere does not offer any refunds under any circumstances. Caitlin wants you to fully commit to the course. Art of Proofreading offers a 7-day conditional refund. Phon will likely refund your payment within 7 days of purchasing the course if you complete the exercises and quizzes as instructed.
Free Information: Both courses have a free masterclass webinar where you can learn more about freelance proofreading and if it is a good fit for you.
Price: The Art of Proofreading sells for $467. The cost of Proofread Anywhere is $397 (if you purchase it through this link). The price is pretty similar for both courses, so it is unlikely that this would be a huge factor in your purchasin decision.
Online proofreading courses for novices – are they right for you?
The above discussion about Art of Proofreading vs Proofread Anywhere has hopefully given you a good idea of which course might be right for you.
But have you considered if freelance proofreading is the right choice? It is not a career choice for everyone. It is hard work and it requires attention to detail that I just don’t have! It will not make you rich, but you can squeeze a full-time income from it.
You have to really enjoy proofreading to be able to do it as a full-time career. The pay for a freelance proofreader varies greatly depending on the type of work you do. Technical work can potentially pay up to about $100 per hour but that is rare. Usually you will be getting paid about $20 per hour.
Proofreading can be a great career for people that want to work-at-home and make their own hours. You can work from anywhere and build your own dream – not someone else’s!
Art of Proofreading vs Proofread Anywhere – Conclusions
So which course wins in the Art of Proofreading vs Proofread Anywhere competition ? Well there seems to be no doubt that Proofread Anywhere is the most popular course. It is much more heavily promoted, and this might explain why it is better known.
It is impossible to say which course is the best choice for you! If you watch the free webinars that both courses offer, you will probably get the best feel for which course will work for you.
Proofreading online is a potentially lucrative way to make money and work from home. Many people have started their online business career by starting as a proofreader. Many proofreaders go on to learn other skills and become virtual assistants.
Proofread Anywhere has a FREE MASTERCLASS that you can watch online to help you figure out if it is right for you.
Good Luck!
